Philosophy
NAMU, Korean for tree, is symbolic of that which is rooted in the celebration of artisanal skills and the joys of nature. It is committed to lovingly sustain age-old artisanal crafts and techniques, respecting the process and people behind the products.
NAMU in Buddhist philosophy is about devotion for the Mystic Law of Life that honors the sacred within each one of us, and the nature that nourishes us. For NAMU the quietude of nature and the magic of the human hand are a constant source of inspiration. Welcome to our world of calm creativity.
Artisanship
NAMU has always been about craftsmanship, the Art of Slow, the Art of the handmade. We work directly with artisans to keep alive age-old techniques such as Indonesian Screen-Printing, Batik and Indian Block Printing. We embrace fair trade and ethical sustainability and we support small, local businesses and try to implement their work environment yet respecting everyone’s culture. The subtle color variations you might find in our products are the signature of the human hand and what makes the piece unique, one-of-a-kind. All our pieces are made by hand and are made only for you.
